HNY & HVD!

I’m waking up smiling these days.  I’m in love, life is good, and work is soooooo satisfying it’s not even work.  AND…I stopped listening to or watching the news. Yes, it does make it harder to have social conversations when your response is “I don’t listen to the news anymore – I don’t know what you’re talking about” – but even that admission feels good!  I didn’t make a new year’s resolution – I quit that a few years ago when my last one was “I will try not to drive 80 miles an hour”.  This, like all other resolutions, went by the wayside within 2 weeks.  I just like to get where I’m going!  Driving is not a pleasure for me – it’s a method.

Snow, and hibernation, are excellent for my creativity.    I don’t need an excuse to play in the kitchen but temps in the zero range do tend to keep me in the kitchen more often!  A refusal to handle any client’s Christmas Eve or Day dinners kept me, for once, calm and able to enjoy OUR season together, and gave me a break with only 2 events in January.  I’ve discovered in my “aged wisdom” that a break brings you back with even more love.  And I got to make a favorite dinner for the holidays instead of working around someone else’s leftovers…Boeuf Bourguignon and my fabulous Cream Cheese and Horseradish Smashed Potatoes.  A Pear & Dried Berry Salad with Goat Cheese and my WONDROUS Sorghum & Cider Vinaigrette, along with Jessica’s Pumpkin Roll, stuffed everyone’s bellies and even 98 year old ma licked her fingers!

VD IS NOT A DISEASE!

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and since LOVE is my favorite thing…it’s a wonderful time for me.  We have not made plans yet for this year but spending it cozy at home sounds like a great idea – with some heart themed fabulousness from the kitchen.  For me, VD is not about a significant other, though I’m very grateful that Gordon is the one, and we will definitely be eating his bread!!; it’s about a “returning” with care to loving life and reminding ourselves of the love and care we should be showing each other and everything on the planet, even the granite, that helps humans survive and thrive another day.  And so, in closing: Hug yourself, be still, and always stop to smell the granite!
