Where did YOU Eat Last Month?
From Governors to Gorging
Whew what a month April was! We've stayed SO busy feeding Governors and Mayors and new friends from Alaska, as well as old friends right here. His Royal Hinee The Crown Prince Floyd Wong (picture below) continually expressed his displeasure as rain came down, but was always happy to have leftovers from Lula's Kitchen. There is not ONE THING from our Vibrant Veggies picture to your left that he doesn't love - from Sea Salt Blanched Haricots Verts to Pimiento Cheese (what we call The REAL DEAL - an authentic Carolina recipe with Lula's twist, of course! Floyd is, after all, a pug. He lives to eat. Kinda like mom.
In addition to feeding others, I fed myself quite alot. Something in the spring air, and a bit of mild hysteria from the last couple of years caused a flurry of visitation - mostly at restaurants. April brought Restaurant Week and we chose Afio's for their prix fixe DELICIOUS dinner (to die for Arancini that he doesn't offer on the regular menu, sadly!. Then there was Easter Brunch at Via Vite (one of the most delicious brunches I've ever had - stellar lamb!) as well as catching up with old friends at a new spot for ME - Chez Renee in Old Milford, where I had a delightful Beet and Goat Cheese Salad and their signature Mushroom Soup (next time I'll opt for their Croque Madame or Cassoulet - can't get them off of my mind!) I also visited with an old friend at an old favorite, York Street Cafe, where Spanakopita or their simple, pure Tuna Salad is always a delight. A group gathered at Unwind in Hyde Park for their always delicious wine selections and some noshing - we began outside in their courtyard, ever hopeful that the cool winds would not betray the glorious sun, but alas, in by the fire we adjourned. Some of you may have seen in one of your social media feeds a half eaten Fish Sandwich from Popeyes...a new discovery for me that I enjoyed SO MUCH I took a picture of it while I was eating it AND driving (shhhh)...it's not all haute cuisine for Lula! It is amazing I have not gained one ounce. Well, really NOT so amazing considering how busy I've been! WHO says cheffing isn't aerobic?!? To top the month off a few empanadas from Che at their new O'Bryonville location before "Becoming Dr. Ruth" at the Playhouse in the Park (WONDERFUL!). I'm absolutely exhausted recounting this month. Here's to more in May!
I'll Bet Floyd Eats Better Than You Do!
Spoiled Rotten Pug"s Favorite Dishes include King Salmon and Cocoa-Coffee Rubbed Short Ribs (another derivation, our Cocoa-Coffee Rubbed Flatiron Steak with Caramelized Onion & Gorgonzola Marmalade and a Balsamic Reduction Drizzle, is pictured above). Who wants to be Floyd?!?
