Falling in Love with Fall
Here's what I DON'T love...the stores already marketing Christmas - who's with me?!? Let's enjoy Fall not as a prelude to presents, but as a gift from nature - crisp air, beautiful colors, feeling cozy, rain (YES, rain...) getting out the beloved sweaters, fall flowers like mums that seem to last forever...extra snuggles (even if it IS just to stay warm), and most importantly for ME...all of the fall RECIPES I get to start making again!! Comforting Casseroles and Soulful Slurpy Soups (I can't WAIT to slurp up my Hanky Panky Stew and SOON!) Not to mention the fun I get to have at Halloween (doesn't the Pukin' Punkin say it all?!?!?)! Whatever your particular joy this season, be in the moment and definitely SLURP IT UP!!
Who's a HOT TEA LOVER?!?
It's hot tea weather! Yay! I love a good cup of hot herbal tea - "regular" tea gives me a headache.... Woops, did you know there's no such thing as "herbal tea"? The technical term is "tisane" for any infusion with hot water of leaves, herbs, bark etc., that are NOT tea leaves. There is only one kind of tea: Camellia Sinensis. The various names you like or hear have to do with place (where the leaves come from) or flavorings. For instance, if you like Earl Grey, you're probably enjoying the bergomot orange oil added to it. Real tea comes in four types: black (fermented), oolong (semi-fermented), green (unfermented) and white (traditionally only from buds not leaves, and sun dried to prevented further oxidation). Lula's famous Lavender Honey Tea is made with fermented (black) decaffeinated tea and lavender from our garden (as well as honey, of course!)
