Stage 4 Cancer Survivor Heidi Bright Gives us a Healthy Valentine’s Day Sweet!

How to Make a Delicious,
Cancer-Fighting Valentine’s Treat

Valentine’s Day gives rise the urge to eat sugary treats. Unfortunately, processed sugar causes inflammation, which is not good for those dealing with cancer.

Here’s a satisfying way around the sugar shackles that I enjoy. It’s naturally sweet, creamy, quick, easy, nutritious, and even color-coordinated.

And best of all, it can help fight cancer.

All it takes is a high-speed blender with a pusher, some frozen red berries, and a banana.

I consider my high-speed blender a vital part of my anti-cancer lifestyle. I use mine daily for green smoothies, and sometimes I’ll use it three times in one day. I am fortunate that my brother Walter gave me a Vitamix after my diagnosis. I believe using it provides my body with access to fresh, vital nutrients I might not get any other way.

Red berries are nutritional powerhouses. They boost the immune system and provide cell-protecting antioxidants. Raspberries and strawberries contain especially high amounts of ellagic acid, a phytochemical that interferes with cancer development. [1]

Bananas contain vitamin B6 (good for dealing with neuropathy), fiber, potassium (especially important during chemo, I found), magnesium, vitamin C, and manganese.[2]

Cut your peeled banana in half and stick both halves in the bottom of your blender.

Measure out 2 cups of frozen berries and pour them on top.

Turn on your blender and use your pusher to get the fruit to mix.

Viola! A delicious, sweet, creamy, frozen dessert for Valentine’s Day.

Enjoy!

A Cold, Snowy Winter Menu For You!

I LOVE SNOW!  I love the cold, the type of cold that snow brings.  It’s just different.  It feels good on my skin, the air smells different and fills my lungs BETTER!   But I understand that most of you find it, though beautiful, an inconvenience, and messy and time consuming and, well… WET.  So I’m going to make you feel beter.  Behold our fantastically beautiful and delicious Roasted Tomato Basil Bisque!  Our tomatoes put up at the peak of the season, garlic, basil and heavy cream make this chunky, yet velvety soup a favorite.  This is definitely the weather for it, along with our hearty Hanky Panky Stew seen below (scroll down please!)  You can order it as originally created with Israeli Couscous, or order it gluten free, made with rice.  Either way, the caraway, spice, and cheeses combine to delightfully remind you of a Hanky Panky snack!  Beef Stroganoff is back, and I’ve added another protein salad – my favorite – Cajun Salmon Caesar.

It’s been a crazy week – please bear with me as I attempt to get my computer out of the hospital.  Invoices and correspondence will not look the same until I get my “world” back.  This does not affect your world though – you can still take care of yourself and let me do the cooking by ordering here.

Soon, SOOOooooon we’ll hear the birds nesting and feel warmth on our skin.  I’m anxiously awaiting my vaccine (Gordon received his 2nd on Monday and just like the first time it knocked him down the day after FYI, though everyone is different – this is HIS experience and I thought I’d share it) and I am wishing for all that with the passage of each day, we feel safer and more love than ever before!

This Hanky Panky Stew is hearty enough to make a whole meal… Order it before it’s gone!

It turns out a Lula’s Gift Certificate for Family Meal Delivery OR Catering at a later date to be mailed or emailed in any denomination you want has been popular so I’m going to continue to offer these whenever you want to treat a family member or friend, or send a thank you to a customer!  Email or call and we’ll take care of it – right down to mailing.  Click here to visit our website!

Valentine’s Aphrodisiac Menu

LOOK AT THIS GORGEOUS SOUP!  It’s called Ajiaco (Latin American Chicken Soup)  Can you guess which ingredients are aphrodisiacs?!?  In honor of Valentine’s Day, every single offering this week has an aphrodisiac in it.  If your curious about the ingredients in the dishes YOU order, just ask!  I teach a whole class on Aphrodisiacs and have several menus to choose from – so I’m kind of an expert (insert smiley face here).  Yup – Lula still doesn’t know how to handle emogees.  Especially in the newsletter.  I will give you a hint: there are three types of aphrodisiacs, and the history on some of them in each category sort of have to be whispered…

Along with this AMAZING soup, you can see our Salmon, Goat Cheese (or Feta if you prefer), and Tomato Frittata below, offered this week in Quiche form as well.  Our yummy, ooey gooey crunchy Chicken Poppyseed Casserole is back (whatever in the WORLD could be an aphrodisiac in THAT?!? – if you’re guessing poppyseed, you’re WRONG) and our Garlic Lamb Kebabs are being offered for the first time.  Lula has a marinade all her own that makes lamb a RAVEABLE dish.  You can find all this and more on our MENU for this week.

Can you believe it’s February already?!?  Soon we’ll hear the birds nesting and feel warmth on our skin.  I’m anxiously awaiting my vaccine (Gordon, as a first responder, is scheduled for his 2nd next week!) and am wishing for all that with the passage of each day, we feel safer and more love than ever before!
